CT Scan

GE 64-slice CT ScannerCT scan-also called CAT Scan- is a radiology test that combines x-rays and sophisticated computers to produce multiple images of the body. These cross-sectional images show internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels in great detail. CT imaging is comparable to a loaf of bread cut into thin slices. When the images are reassembled by the computer, the result is a multi-dimensional view of the body.

CT scans are often the preferred method to diagnosis different pathologies. These images allow the radiologist to identify pathology and determine how it is related to surrounding structures. CT also quickly identifies injuries to the lungs, heart and vessels, liver, spleen, kidneys, bowel or other internal organs in cases of trauma.

NOMS Imaging Center uses the new GE 64-slice CT Scanner. It can scan through large sections of the body in a few seconds. Some scans require the use of contrast material to enhance anatomical structures.

CT Scan Preparation

CHEST CT

Nothing to eat 1 hour prior to exam.

ABDOMEN AND/OR PELVIS CT

Nothing to eat 4 hours prior to your exam. For some abdominal and pelvic CT's you will be required to drink barium 2-3 hours prior to your exam to better visualize the bowel and stomach. Your physician may give you the barium to drink when they schedule your exam. If you did not receive the barium, please contact us @ 419-621-0858 and we can make arrangements for you to get the barium prior to your exam. **please note that not all abdominal and pelvic CT's require you to drink barium.

For some CT scans, we may need to inject contrast to better visualize anatomy. If you are allergic to iodine, or have a prior history of allergic reaction to "x-ray dye," you may need to get pre-medicated the night before your exam. Please discuss this with your physician when the test is ordered. Please inform the technologist when you arrive of any and all allergies you may have.

If you receive a contrast injection, and you are diabetic and take Glucophage (Metformin), you may take your medicine before the exam, but cannot resume taking it for 48 hours after the exam is complete.
